<LipstickThespian> As class is dismissed, Katlyn hurries to put her things away. She had spread out her work to cover up the math she was supposed to be learning. Instead her desk had become another jumbled workshop for her artistic endeavors. When the teacher let them go, she hurried to put her things away, caught off guard by the sudden announcement. If she was quick there was a chance she could file out without being caught by anyone. Especially that horrible vixen who always seemed to catch the attention of the class. As she made for the door and kept her head low, she missed a loose piece of paper falling from her arms and settling on the floor in between some desks. No time to notice it, she couldn't look back. That's where Akemi sat. And she was trying to avoid her. And well, everyone.
<@Kioku> Akemi is already half-prepared, she barely took anything out anyway, and what she did can easily go into the satchel on her hip as she walks. If not for the loose paper, that is! She swoops down to pick it up and dances between students to go after its source. Poor Katlyn, must not have noticed! She does give into the temptation of taking a quick look over it on the way though…
<LipstickThespian> On the paper is a carefully, too carefully, drawn portrait of Akemi. Caught as she turned to address a student sitting next to her. Done in colored pencil and careful to catch the perfect light that seems to shine on the girl in her natural grace. It must have taken more than one class period for her to make the detailed drawing, even for her. The smile seems to have taken her the most time, but it almost captures the natural joy Akemi carries with her. Katlyn herself holds her book to her chest as she slips between the groups of people and makes her way towards the cafeteria. Her appetite was still gone from yesterday, but hunger might force her to eat. At least she had to try.
<@Kioku> Akemi's breath catches and she's caught staring at the drawing a few seconds longer than she'd like to admit. Finally, she looks around to catch a glimpse of the silent artist, barely spotting her ghosting through the halls in time to follow.
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn makes her way into the cafeteria and over to the line. She decides on a most likely out of date pre-made wrap and tucks it into her bag. Turning quickly she goes to leave the room, there's too many people in here anyway.
<@Kioku> Akemi doesn't reveal herself among the crowd. Not yet. She wants to watch where the girl goes so that she can't pretend to be ready to change destinations on her and slip away, after all… and there's this strange sense that she would, given how she tries to avoid everyone.
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn slips down the hallway, past the friends and acquaintances that she only keeps in her mind. Eventually she finds herself in the abandoned music room. The teacher only ever giving a few lessons in the morning then leaving the room open until he stumbled back in the evening to lock up. She makes her way to the back of the room where she's left her guitar from this morning's class. Setting her things down she gets situated, and gives the wrap a bite to try.
<@Kioku> \Hmm? In here? Interesting… nearly time. I don't want to seem like I was spying on her or something though, so maybe right now, unless she might leave this room again…\ Akemi doesn't consider that she might be trying to avoid her in particular. Who would want to, after all? She peeks her head in to gaze at Katlyn, then after a few seconds slips into the room, pushing the door closed behind her.
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn shuffles through her papers in between bites. She stops for a second when she thinks she hears something, like a door closing, but forgets it as she goes to organize her sketchbook and find her sheet music. It's a bit of a struggle, her bag is full today with half formed ideas.
<@Kioku> Akemi sits on the floor next to the door and gets out her own lunch. She carefully lays the drawing next to her, glancing between it and Katlyn while she starts to eat.
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn pulls over her guitar from the stand she had left it in earlier. She sets her wrap away to never be touched again after her initial bite. Taking a pick from her hoodie she strums it just to get a sound, a smile on her face. Looking at the sheet music she starts to play. It's a happy song filled with a high tempo and a lot of excitement. Rough around the edges but it seems to be something she's worked hard to try and perfect. At some point she stops to reach down and change the sheet music, before continuing.
<@Kioku> Akemi smiles at the music and keeps eating, a little apprehensive about revealing herself now, though it doesn't show. How will Katlyn feel when she finds out that she's been in this room the whole time?
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn continues to play, she seems to be committing herself to it and gets quite into the music. After a moment she stands up and sets the sheets onto a music stand, and drags it close to her. Starting over on the song she begins to move around with the music. She is a natural performer it looks like, the music flowing through her little bounces and her hair flowing around with the chords. It's more lively than most days for her, despite the lack of eating.
<@Kioku> Akemi moves a little in her sitting position with the music, barely noting how the girl isn't eating. \Maybe I'll save some of mine for her, if she doesn't like the school's food?\ She's enjoying the performance too much to really think about it beyond that, torn between wanting to just watch and listen more, and wanting to join her.
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn finishes off the song, a goofy smile on her face as she stops sliding around in her beat up canvas shoes. She takes a pencil from her bag and starts to make adjustments to the sheet music, a few parts not meshing well with her.
<@Kioku> Akemi giggles happily at seeing the girl's smile, realizing too late that it would give her away and possibly break the mood. She really wanted to watch her act candidly more, too!
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn freezes as she hears the giggle, she turns and takes a step back. Almost knocking over the music stand as she finds Akemi with a look of horror in her eyes. Her mouth hangs a little open and she's holding her guitar like it's the only thing keeping her afloat in the moment.
<@Kioku> Akemi spins up to her feet, nabbing the paper gently as she does, her bright smile dimming slightly as a look of concern passes over her. "It was really nice…" she murmurs. "I just wanted to return this, you dropped it in class, but then I didn't want to disturb you while you were playing the music… and you looked so happy…" The horror in Katlyn's eyes seems to be eating away at Akemi as she gets more and more worried with every second. "I-I'm sorry!"
<LipstickThespian> As she watches the girl, she squeezes the stem of her guitar tightly so it can't make a sound. Her mouth eventually closes but the look of terror still resides as she realizes her private moment wasn't so. The compliment only does so much to lift her spirits before she sees the sheet of paper and a cloud of worry comes over her face. Feebly, she holds out a hand to have it given back.
<@Kioku> Akemi moves forward, graceful even in her mounting sorrow, and hands over the paper, still in perfect condition. She really took being careful with it seriously. "I liked the drawing too… if you ever want me to model for you, I'd be happy to. O-or if you'd let me sing with you." She glances away and backs off a couple steps after the paper is parted from her hand.
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn takes a step back after she has the paper, nearing the wall. The dread in her is still there as she realizes what exactly she had dropped and who had found it. Thought she would love nothing more than in the world than to collaborate with the girl in front of her, the pain of being caught with her private work gets to her. She pulls out her lighter from her jeans and starts to light the piece on fire with a few clicks.
<@Kioku> Akemi's eyes widen in horror to match Katlyn's from before. "No! Please… I-I'll buy it if you like! Just don't…" It's incredibly rare to see Akemi in a vulnerable moment like this, not managing to hide what she's feeling, but the combination of the awe over the drawing, the joy in the music, and the absolute, unfettered pain of seeing the girl's terror has done it this time. A tear actually looks like it's about to escape.
<LipstickThespian> It's the girl's reaction to her art that does her in. Katlyn can't help but enjoy the appreciation of her work. She stops trying to light it ablaze and instead puts her lighter away. Instead of destroying the piece and hours of work, she holds it back out to Akemi. Her walls were full anyway, might as well give it to someone who will appreciate it. Even if it is a weird piece.
<@Kioku> Akemi reaches out a slightly shaky hand, eyes pleading with Katlyn for the piece. She just needs to get it somewhere safe without folding, wrinkling or smudging it. Just needs Katlyn to… to… "Please stop that look… it hurts… please don't be afraid of me…" She's still looking away from Katlyn's face, only at her hands, scared to see the expression again.
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn lets the paper get taken away, and kneels down to pick up her things. Stuffing the sheet music away and grabbing everything but the abandoned wrap. She stops looking at Akemi at least, but her intent seems clear, she means to flee.
<@Kioku> Once the paper is in her hands, Akemi doesn't hesitate. Spotting someone through the door's window from the corner of her eye, passing by the room in the hall, she drops her half-eaten bento, holds the paper in both hands, and shimmers. Her form shifts to a silver fox that Katlyn will only be able to see for a scant few seconds before it leaps through the air, flying through the door. A moment later, the student in the hall
shivers hard, and Akemi stands up behind him, giving one last look in the window before running.
<LipstickThespian> Katlyn watches it all occur with a look of wonder. She stops what she's doing in her attempt to escape and just sits back down on the floor. Fuck, she shouldn't have given that drawing to her. Taking a moment to collect herself, she decides to take another bite of the wrap. Still shit, it's all still shit.
