Player Name: whatfreshhellisthis (Charlie)
Character Name: Opal Leibovitz; Shoshanna bas Avraham v'Sarah.
Demeanor: Opal is mostly stand-offish, seemingly disinterested in idle conversation. When she does talk, she is deadpan, practical, literal-minded, and kind of rude. Her humour is mostly derived from ribbing other people, but this can come off as tone-deaf. She can be aggressive to perceived slights and could be described as oversensitive, getting angry, upset and lashing out at seemingly trivial things. She can be quick-witted and funny, and as she gets more involved in a conversation she calms down and can be warm and even charming, though sardonic.
Nature: She *is* kind of tone-deaf and insensitive. She doesn’t mean to be that way, she just struggles to read the mood and tone of the people around her and so often fails to act appropriately. This leads to her feeling uncertain in social situations, so she generally takes a while to pluck up the courage to speak. Unfortunately this nervousness often just reads as boredom or disinterest.
Outside of social interaction, Opal loves fashion, vegetarian pizza, heights and 70s/80s sci-fi. She’s also Jewish, and tries to keep kosher. This she’s not so great at, mostly because non-halachic foods are so much easier to deal with and shabbos was clearly thought of before the internet became an everyday need in a teen’s life.
Description: Opal is tall for a sixteen year old at 5’8”, and she generally deals with her height by dressing with all the care and colour her megre allowance affords her. This is significantly more underwhelming than her dreams of haute couture lead her to imagine, but the girl can at least do interesting things with layers. She has long, curly brown hair, brown eyes, and a sharp, square face with a prominent hooked nose.
Plummeting With Style (Parkour) - (4) Agility
Being able to manipulate gravity makes being able to quickly and accurately orientate oneself an invaluable skill. Also impressing hotties with some sweet, sweet moves.
Yeah, That Looks Fine (Perception) - (3) Brains
Being able to calculate things like gravitational acceleration, mobile trajectories, and terminal velocity in her head would be extremely useful. Instead, Opal eyeballs it and hopes for the best.
Sh'ma Yisra'eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad. (Academics) - (3) Brains
Being able to recite the Shema Yisra'el from memory is nothing to sniff at, and Opal is pretty skilled at retaining information.
Create - (2) Brains
If you want a hemline risen, a hat repurposed as a handbag, or a decidedly lumpy but relatively nice knitted jumper, Opal is your girl. It just might take a while. And monetary compensation.
Gravitational Shift - 4 - Opal can transfer the gravitational direction of herself, others and objects by “lashing” them to a different direction or specific thing. At Tier 0, lashings last ten seconds unless botched.
How Strong Is Your Pull? - 3 - Opal can also use “lashings” to increase or decrease the force of gravitational pull; a half-lashing reduces it by half, a full lashing keeps it at the regular amount, double lashings double it etc.

Opal was born Isaac Avraham Mintz in London, but transphobia and having barely-understood powers is not a great mix for a prepubescent kid. Following an Incident her family move to Toronto, and things are pretty ok for a while. Transgender people are becoming more acknowledged and her powers… well. Those she practices in private. Then synthetic puberty hits her like a tonne of bricks, she becomes self-conscious, and in her vulnerability she is preyed on by a boy in her school. This goes on for a while, until a breaking point where she uses her powers and sends him first violently against a building, and then plummeting to the ground. Unsure what actually happened to him, her parents fear her and her world shatters. This destructive, scary show of powers leads her to the attention of those that make those sorts of decisions, and she ends up at Fifth Sanctum.
Whilst she can effect gravity, she cannot effect wind resistance. This can leave her hair seeming as if it's moving through water.
