Brief Description: A lean bespectacled Hispanic boy in an old canvas jacket and a scarlet neckerchief (like some kind of commie Boy Scout), with a large conspicuous toolbelt slung around his hips. Opinionated, ambitious, intelligent and intense, Diego often seems unusually animated despite the dark circles beneath his eyes giving him a sleep-deprived look. His left hand is a cybernetic robot hand, joining with his flesh arm neatly at the wrist.

Appearance: A scruffy-looking boy with browline glasses, olive skin, black hair that flares out on either side, and warm brown eyes. Diego’s got the dark circles and thousand-yard stare of a longtime insomniac, but also has the knowing half-smile of a guy who’s thinks he has everyone else figured out. His long-fingered right hand and upper arms are wrapped in gauze and are often stowed away in the many pockets of his worn People's Army canvas jacket. His left hand is a gunmetal grey robot prosthetic, with the detailing and the Comintern symbol on the back of the hand done in soflty glowing red. Diego always has a Comintern badge featuring a red hammer, gear, and sickle together in a simplified modernist symbol over his heart alongside his Antifaschistische Aktion button, an Institute for Experimental Technologies emblem and a Liga de Jóvenes Comunistas pin. He usually wears his jacket in combination with a plain collared work shirt, the red neckerchief of the Jóvenes Comunistas (or Young Communists), sturdy sneakers and cargo pants.

Personality: Professional and wary at first, he quickly opens up to people who he deems trustworthy and forms intensely close bonds with longtime friends. Diego is an ardent and committed communist, of the prevailing Trotskyist tendency, which bleeds heavily into the personal philosophy that he follows. For example, Diego considers the guidelines for how to behave as a proper "youth party member" according to the strictures of the Young Communist League as the height of good ethics, and strives to follow them as best he can. He blends a fatalistic apathy towards bad luck and an “it can’t get any worse” brand of hopefulness into a darkly humorous optimism. Like a model Comintern citizen, Diego has an inhuman work ethic, often running experiments or testing his models for days on end before collapsing into a 18-hour sleep. Diego relishes tough or tricky problems and prefers to think his way out of issues before resorting to physical violence, although this does not mean that he is the least bit fond of passivity.

Recently, he has become more skeptical about the current integrity of certain Comintern party officials, including Premier Shan Meiying, due to his discovery of the secret Comintern supersoldier program. He plans to collect evidence and then present it all to the General Secretary to get justice for Comrade Kit Kat and her fellows, while purifying the Comintern of corruption.

Hobbies: Journaling, designing and working on his machines, writing for the Red Flag newspaper, volunteering, raising a variety of succulent plants, agitating for leftist causes.

Diego has an instinctual knowledge of how any machine he sees works. He can conjure up a blueprint for the machine in his mind's eye and understands how to operate it like a long-time user. Furthermore, he can quickly assemble his own ultra-tech inventions to aid him. These can range from relatively "mundane" gadgets like a robotic claw to nigh-on impossible physics-breaking tech like the Dimensional Transporter that brought him to this version of Earth.

Diego is remarkably skilled at noticing various patterns and putting together the discrete elements of a complicated mess—related items jump out in his mind. This is useful for swiftly learning languages, breaking codes, or find clues hidden among massive amounts of data. This also grants him incredible skill with large-scale mathematics. Together with his eidetic memory, Diego can do everything from calculate the odds exactly when gambling to predicting precisely where a leaf falling from a tree will land by observing the landscape and local wind currents. Diego specializes in calculation involving the activity of complex chaotic systems and so can calculate answers that even the fastest computers could not, including things like patterns of rubble distribution from an explosion. He also uses this probability crunching and analysis ability to aid his deductive capabilities. Diego can take data and apply predictive algorithms to build a mental reconstruction of a past event. This combined data can be used to imagine a given scenario of the given event and its possible permutations.

  • Skix
    • She's a very good comrade with a lizard-person shape and solid mechanical skills to boot. Perhaps even a prospective communist, but that's not for sure yet.
    • Skix jumped me in a lab, but it turns out that she just thought that I was responsible for Kit's creation. Which is partially true, sadly, but we resolved to try and help her adjust as best we can. The whole talk made me consider possible corruption in the high echelons of the Comintern. Must assemble a report for the General Secretary at first opportunity.
  • Micheal
    • Another new comrade with the ability to turn into metal. Has a thorough knowledge of history, respect for the Red Army, and a proper hatred for fascists. All excellent qualities!
    • Met him again in the Common Room. It got kinda tense when he asked me if I had made a run for it during the mission in Kansas. He seemed a lot happier when I explained what happened, not even that concerned about how I fucked up. We watched some rocket launches and he showed me Star Trek!
  • Claire
    • A religious demon that I met at the library. Seems nice enough, maybe even a tentative comrade, but I'm still wary of that book. She can offer contracts, power in exchange for..something. She wouldn't tell me. Not my cup of tea, generally speaking. In any case, it was good to speak Russian with someone.
    • We talked after our mission together, the one where I fell apart after coming through a portal. Claire had taken some monster acid to the face, but she still had the wherewithal to remind me that a good Marxist helps those they can as best they can, no matter the situation. She may belong to Mother Church, but she's a rock-solid tovarish. She even possess the means to get me home, although the cost is too high for me. For now, at least.

    • That fascistic, Social Darwinist, counter-revolutionary, imperializing, pro-oppression pig! Horrible politics, but a person who can die and come back is not to be messed with lightly, even for the sake of the people.
  • Nalyda
    • Another newcomer to this dimension. I'm not sure I can really wrap my mind around the idea of Romans and Persians still keeping hegemony over the Old World. She seems like she knows a lot about Prophet Mazdak, though, so that's pretty cool.

    • A lobster person with a knack for engineering. Interestingly, he already has some sort of disenchantment with this world's abuses of the proletariat. Gotta remember to give him a utilitool when I next see him.
    • I knew it! Comrade Tobias is a red! Well, more like a pink, seeing as he's a democratic socialist. I gave him a utilitool and he seemed to really appreciate it. He even was interested in information about the Comintern and forming a Young Socialists Club. He may not be a zealot, but he's already revolutionary in thought.
  • Elspeth
    • A demon summoner from the area around Munich, Germany. I'm not the biggest fan of magic, but she seemed very nice. I got to practice my German, but more importantly, it was good to spend time with someone else who knows how it feels to be disconnected from home.
    • We met again, this time in the courtyard. Talked about her engineer boyfriend, the love lives of Communists, magic theory, and the much-darker topic of her maybe-terminal illness. Capitalverse medicine and even Comintern tech seem useless to help her, but she hasn't given in to despair. I wish I had half the stoicism she does.
  • Comrade Kit Kat
    • Another communist! A real dyed-in-the-wool Red from the motherland! She's the product of a Comintern black labs cyborg project, supposedly the order came down from the General Secretary themself. We'll get her citizenship issues sorted when we get back home. She acts…odd, but I think she's a top-notch comrade and I'm thankful that I'm not alone here anymore.
  • Maya
    • A girl with the ability to pull all manner of weapons from thin air. She has an independent spirit and even though she doesn't care for Lenin, I think her heart is in the right place 'cause she talked about self-sacrifice for the common good. Also, she gave me cool Lenin and Trotsky weapons, so she's a comrade in the making as far as I'm concerned.

    • She talked with Micheal and I about super-secret space stations and teleporters. Also introduced me to Star Trek, which is the best thing this dimension has yet to produce. Terrible puns, but an affable comrade.
  • Kira
    • Comrade Kira is like…a digitized consciousness of a girl who can inhabit various machinery. Besides the obviously incredible nature of this ability (see blueprints j12 through k2), she seems really nice and can actually keep up with my tech jargon. Granted, she's the daughter of one of those rich bourgeoisie bastards, but a good communist doesn't look at family history when considering a fellow worker.
    • I met her in the workshops when I was trying to get the ionization study probe repaired. She was in a bad way, really agitated and pretty fixed on getting her sensory update done -right then.- I can understand the feeling of hoping your wave of inspiration is the one that solves your problems, but I guess she has troubles that even I can't commiserate with. I hope she's OK.
